Vista Life Innovations is a nationally recognized, post-secondary program for individuals with autism spectrum disorders and other related disabilities. We offer a community-based training program designed for individuals who would like to succeed in work and independent living, and who are seeking a non-traditional program to address their needs. Director of Quality of Life Services

Vista is currently recruiting for a Director of Quality of Life Services.

The selected Director of Quality of Life Services will report to the Vice President of Programs, Services and Organizational Development. The Director of Quality of Life Services is responsible for the oversight of Vista’s Social Enterprises; Advocacy & Benefits Services; and Arts, Recreation & Wellness Programs.

This oversight includes Vista’s retail store and art program initiatives; advocacy & benefits services assisting clients and their families navigate entitlements and plan for the future; visual and performing arts programming - including an annual musical theatre production and the business development of art sales; and community-based recreation and wellness programs that enhance the well-being of Vista clients.

The Director of Quality of Life Services must possess and demonstrate strong business planning, development and marketing knowledge with a proven track record in leading teams with successful growth outcomes. The Director of Quality of Life Services must have significant and proven track record in collaborative leadership skills, superior communication skills and analytical and problem solving abilities.

The successful candidate must have significant and proven management/leadership experience with nonprofit organizations and knowledge of personnel, budgetary and management practices.

The Director of Quality of Life Services must have a commitment, vision and understanding of the basic philosophy and mission of the organization. This position is a member of the organizational management team and will also be in a supervisory role.

Position summary and responsibilities:

In collaboration with respective executive and programmatic leadership, the successful candidate will lead Vista’s Social Enterprises; Advocacy & Benefits Services; and Arts, Recreation & Wellness Programs and initiatives for the organization.

  • Develops, designs, implements and executes strategic initiatives, including yearly objectives and benchmarks to ensure the success, growth and innovation in our Social Enterprises; Advocacy & Benefits Services; and Arts, Recreation & Wellness Programs.
  • Develops and implements long term, multi-year objectives related to the strategic plan for department/service sector.
  • Develop and promote the engagement of our Social Enterprises; Advocacy & Benefits Services; and Arts, Recreation & Wellness Programs with employees, families and community members.
  • Explores, creates, and operationalizes new business initiatives, programs and services for current clients and constituents as well as to market to new target audiences.
  • Monitors and evaluates services for quality and efficiency.
  • Leads ongoing program and service delivery systems and operations, monitor and evaluate successful implementation and follow through with service systems and program operations, monitor quality and quantity of output. Execute changes that improve and expand services and programs and ultimately lead to future growth and development as well as to generalized success of overall sectors.
  • Has direct responsibility for financial success of Vista’s Social Enterprises; Advocacy & Benefits Services; and Arts, Recreation & Wellness Programs ensuring that service sectors are on target financially, programmatically and organizationally. Indirect responsibility for success of all sectors within the organization.
  • Directly supervises and leads the individual managers running each service sector.
  • Leads stakeholder identification, cultivation, utilization and ongoing relationships related to recipients of the training and employment sectors.
  • Seeks out and cultivates relationships with operational leaders of existing and future public and private funding sources.
  • Effectively manages relationships with families, students/members and funding sources so that numbers of individuals served increase each year.
  • Collaborates with marketing team to ensure sector is reaching goal in relation to numbers served.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with external sources that are engaged in similar functions and can provide information regarding best practices, emerging markets and trends.
  • Ensures that programs and services are in regulatory compliance.

The Director of Quality of Life Services position will focus on external relationships with travel locally, regionally and nationally approximately 50 % of the time.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Must have at least 5 years of related experience in business administration, marketing and/or program development; experience with social enterprises preferred.
  • Knowledge in marketing, visual and performing arts programming experience a plus.
  • Must have excellent presentation skills

Life Skills Instructors

We are currently seeking full and part time Life Skills Instructors.

The successful Life Skills Instructor candidates must be able to work in partnership with others to implement systems that support Vista’s clients’ independent living needs. He/She must be able to teach evaluate, problem solve and implement compensatory strategies. The successful candidate must be able and willing to work with clients in a variety of settings including within the Vista campus and the community.

The Life Skills Instructor will mainly be working within Vista clients' homes and throughout the shoreline towns in south central Connecticut. Life Skills services include household, time, food, medication and money management as well as self-care, community integration, health, safety, and companion services. The Life Skills Instructor must have a general knowledge of how to perform basic life skills related tasks such as cooking, money management and cleaning.

  • Role model good social skills, leadership skills, communication skills, conflict resolution skills and problem solving skills.
  • Provide consistent and quality instruction.

Program Counselor

We are currently seeking a full time Program Counselor with strong case management skills and the proven ability to lead a team on behalf of individual clients in a positive and professional manner. The successful candidate must have knowledge of disabilities issues and sound counseling practices including family counseling and state and local resources.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing written program plans, goal implementation and creating systems for assigned caseload.
  • Provide individual and family counseling and provide instruction in areas of social skills, cognitive development as well as money, medication and time management strategies.
  • Communicate students/member’s needs, issues and goals to all staff members and other parties involved. Work with students and members in developing natural supports in the community.
  • Maintain all case records as well as all necessary records and documentation.
  • Utilize technology so that effective systems are being utilized that clearly address each student/members goals in all areas of the individualized program plan.

The successful candidate must be extremely organized and able to deal effectively with unforeseen issues as they arise. He/she must be able to proactively problem solve and work with co-workers, families students/members and various funding sources in collaboration and a supportive professional manner.

Vista hosts several family events throughout the year, including spring and fall family weekends, and it is expected that all Program Counselors take part in these events as a resource and contact for families and students/members.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree
  • At least 2 years of direct experience working with autism, neurological disabilities or special needs population
  • Ideal candidate will have excellent written, verbal and organizational skills
  • Counseling and coordination experience preferred
  • Knowledge of disability issues and goal development
  • Must have experience with special needs population and possess strong counseling and service coordination skills
  • Must have proficient computer skills and experience in documentation

Quality of Life Instructor

We are currently seeking a Recreation Instructor, known at Vista as a Quality of Life Instructor.

The successful Quality of Life Instructor candidate must be able to work in partnership with others to facilitate Recreation services including but not limited to recreational activities, physical fitness/sports, meal prep, and transportation supports while displaying a positive and professional demeanor.

Successful Quality of Life Instructor candidate must:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in meal preparation skills and the ability to facilitate activities in a group setting
  • Have good time management skills and the ability to be flexible and organized.
  • Plan and lead recreational group activities and community outings.
  • Develop, plan and lead ongoing and new clubs throughout the year.
  • Plan and lead ongoing sports activities including but not limited to basketball, softball, and soccer.
  • Support students/members in accessing the community wellness facilities and assist them in reaching their wellness goals.
  • Plan and cook family-style meals in a group setting while encouraging peer-to-peer socialization.
  • Exhibit creativity in facilitating the engagement of students/members in Quality of Life services.
  • Attend monthly team meetings and proactively communicates the strengths and areas that need improvement.
  • Communicate necessary information to the team of staff for each student/member assigned to their caseload.
  • Use identified assistive technology to assist students with independence.
  • Complete all necessary documentation utilizing the computer and applicable systems so all systems run smoothly and timely.
  • All assigned tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner so the student/member’s individual systems are maintained and timely.
  • Be an excellent role model for students/members so they can learn the necessary social skills in any given environment.
  • Develop rapport with students/members so they feel comfortable and are in their learning environment.

Student Support Counselors

We are currently seeking full and part time Student Support Counselors.

We currently have the following part time vacancies available:

Position 1 – Full Time

Sunday – Thursday – 10am-6pm (40 hours/week)

Position 2 – Full Time

Tuesday-Saturday – 2pm-10pm (40 hours/week)

Position 3 – Part Time

Friday-Saturday – 3:30pm-9:30pm (12 hours/week)

The successful candidates must be able to work in partnership with others to support, train and assist with all of the daily activities of Vista’s residential campus and clients while displaying a positive and professional demeanor. The supports include but are not limited to: transportation, dormitory chores, room organization, meal preparation and client social supports.

He/She must be able to teach evaluate, problem solve and implement compensatory strategies. The successful candidate must be able and willing to work with clients in a variety of settings including in their homes, on Vista campus and within the community.

Ventures Job Coach

We are currently recruiting for vacancies in our Ventures department. Successful candidates will have experience in:

  • Inventory management
  • Fulfillment-merchandising
  • Cleaning-general office cleaning

We currently have part-time vacancies: typical schedules are Monday-Friday between the hours of 6:30 am – 5 pm.

The position is based out of Madison; however local travel is required for sites. All positions require flexibility and the availability to work occasional weekends due to unforeseen circumstances and customer needs.

Positions are paid $14.00 per hour plus mileage for any work related driving

We are willing to merge 2 part time positions together to create a full time-40 hour per week position pending the ability to do so.

The successful candidate must be able to work in partnership with others to lead, support and work in Ventures work crews comprised of our students and members and other people with disabilities employed by Vista. While providing this support, the Ventures Job Coach must display a strong level of positive, professional and quality support, training and leadership.

Job Coaches must be able to:

  • Teach, evaluate and implement strategies with student/member employees and work cooperatively with customers and vendors.
  • Successfully work in a business service and production-based model.
  • Balance the needs of student/member employees and Ventures Business Services at the same time.
  • Evaluate a given situation and independently develop goals, action steps and ensure implementation of these actions in day to day activities to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of our work crews.
  • Be able to determine factors that must be addressed within assigned work crews that will lead to the overall success of the service and implement crew training and accommodations to address those needs.
  • Have oversight and be responsible for the successful execution and quality control of Ventures Business Services work crews as assigned.
  • Must be very detailed and able to respond to tight deadline and unexpected situations that may arise with changing timelines
  • The Ventures Job Coach must have an understanding and a commitment to the basic philosophy and mission of Vista Vocational & Life Skills Center and a belief in the potential of its students/members and people with disabilities in general.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma.
  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience in the following: Cleaning, Maintenance, Fulfillment and Merchandising Services.
  • Experience with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
In addition, the successful candidate must:
  • Transport students/members in personal vehicle and company vehicle.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain CPR-First Aid Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Be able to work in various interior and exterior work environments
  • Be able to complete job tasks including lifting up to 25 lbs., sitting, standing and walking for sustained periods of time.
  • Computer skills are needed, willing to train. Experience in Excel a huge plus!
