We offer a community-based training program designed for individuals who would like to succeed in work and independent living, and who are seeking a non-traditional program to address their needs. Vista's philosophy looks at each individual holistically.

Our mission is to provide services and resources to assist individuals with disabilities achieve personal success. We have two main campuses in Madison and Westbrook serving communities along the shoreline in south central Connecticut.

Fundraising and Events Manager

Vista seeks an experienced, professional Fundraising and Events Manager with a strong background in donor development, events oversight and fundraising. This is a full-time, salaried position. The ideal candidate is an organized, detail-oriented, creative-thinker, with excellent writing, editing and oral communication skills. The candidate must be able to successful manage multiple ongoing priorities, deadlines, and projects. The Fundraising and Events Manager will oversee and lead the fundraising, development and events for organizations linked to Vista.

The Fundraising and Events Manager must possess and demonstrate excellent communication, public relations and public speaking skills while having the ability to lead others. This position is a member of the organizational management team and may also be in a supervisory role.

The Fundraising and Events Manager must have a commitment, vision and understanding of the basic philosophy and mission of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Director of Organizational Development & Communications to create and implement annual and special initiative fundraising campaigns.
  • Implements and executes strategic initiatives for all identified areas of the organization in alignment with Marketing and Development Plans.
  • Implements long term, multi-year objectives related to the strategic plan.
  • Owns the creation of new fundraising initiatives.
  • Leads ongoing development and fundraising activities, monitors and evaluates successful implementation and follow through with systems and operations.
  • Create liaisons with the corporate community and seeks out new sponsors and donations of goods and money to support events and fundraising programs.
  • Sits on and may act as liaison in related Board committees.
  • Oversees planning and implementation of special events and onsite logistics, as identified and assigned, as well as event publicity in all media venues.
  • Raises funds as identified with management goals through participation, sponsorships and other creative methods for all activities as identified.
  • Creates and leads volunteer committees for each event or development program, fostering good relationships and participation by volunteers.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors activities and systems to ensure smooth operation of events and various fundraising programs.
  • Maintains accurate record keeping of event or program expenses and revenues and data related to attendance, demographics and other pertinent information for use in subsequent years and to provide proper reporting to auditors and accounting.
  • Ensures acknowledgment of donor gifts for events and fundraising programs as identified or assigned.
  • Serves as an ambassador for Vista in the community and the wider world, initiating and implementing projects that provide the public with information about Vista’s programs and its students/members.
  • Fosters and maintains good relationships with families, volunteers and community representatives.
  • Work with other development professionals, supervisors and members of the Management Team to ensure that events are well attended and supported by Vista Staff, the Board of Directors and families.
  • Researches new opportunities for events and fundraising programs that may help to raise money and provide greater public relations for the organization.
  • Creates publications that will advertise events or solicit gifts and mail as appropriate. Works with printers and other vendors to ensure that all aspects are operating smoothly.
  • Undertakes special projects and activities as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's Degree with 3 years of related experience in donor development, events oversight and fundraising

Job Coach

The successful Job Coach candidate must be able to work in partnership with others to support and teach Vista students/members to work successfully and independently while displaying a positive and professional demeanor.

The Job Coach must have an awareness of disability issues, and a general knowledge of how to perform basic job coaching related tasks including teaching and role modeling the duties of the assigned worksite(s).

He/She must be able to teach evaluate, problem solve and implement compensatory strategies. The successful candidate must be able and willing to work with students and members in a variety of settings within the employment community.

Successful candidates must:

  • Successfully work in a variety of employment settings including supportive, group and competitive employment.
  • Balance the needs of students/members, Vista and the employer at the same time.

Recreation Instructors

The successful Recreation Instructor candidate must be able to work in partnership with others to facilitate Recreation services including but not limited to recreational activities, physical fitness/sports, meal prep, and transportation supports while displaying a positive and professional demeanor.

Successful candidates must:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in meal preparation skills and the ability to facilitate activities in a group setting
  • Have good time management skills and the ability to be flexible and organized.
  • Plan and lead recreational group activities and community outings.
  • Develop, plan and lead ongoing and new clubs throughout the year.
  • Plan and lead ongoing sports activities including but not limited to basketball, softball, and soccer.
  • Support students/members in accessing the community wellness facilities and assist them in reaching their wellness goals.
  • Plan and cook family-style meals in a group setting while encouraging peer-to-peer socialization.
  • Exhibit creativity in facilitating the engagement of students/members in Quality of Life services.
  • Attend monthly team meetings and proactively communicates the strengths and areas that need improvement.
  • Communicate necessary information to the team of staff for each student/member assigned to their caseload.
  • Use identified assistive technology to assist students with independence.
  • Complete all necessary documentation utilizing the computer and applicable systems so all systems run smoothly and timely.
  • All assigned tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner so the student/member’s individual systems are maintained and timely.
  • Be an excellent role model for students/members so they can learn the necessary social skills in any given environment.
  • Develop rapport with students/members so they feel comfortable and are in their learning environment.

Requirements:

Experience:

  • Be able to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid within 90 days of hire.

Part Time, 20 hour/week positions – the schedule listed below has hours that may vary based on activities.

Recreation Instructor Schedule

Sunday: Weekend Activities – 9 am to 7 pm
Monday - Thursday: Café – 4 to 7 pm

Store Manager

Vista Life Innovations is seeking a Store Manager for our retail store, Creations. Located in the heart of downtown Madison, CT, Creations offers the beautiful work of more than 160 artisans who come from the Northeast region of the United States. All proceeds from Creations support the programs and services of Vista Life Innovations.

The selected Store Manager will be responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of operating a retail store. He/She must have strong knowledge of the retail industry, key product selection and overall retail operations including merchandising activities, product sale and inventory, and customer service.

The Store Manager will be able to proactively troubleshoot and recommend solutions and carry out plans to ensure the success of the retail boutique. The candidate must be familiar with retail/industry trends including seasonal promotions, sale projections and anticipate special retail events throughout the year. We are seeking an engaging, passionate candidate who will display these qualities with each and every customer interaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates and manages the general operations of the store ensuring excellent presentation, product inventory, visual merchandising and sales are maintained to ensure efficient operations.
  • Maintains a positive, engaging and energetic demeanor at all times. Delivers friendly and prompt service to all customers.
  • Creates and maintains systems and schedules to guide the functions of the store.
  • Maintains a professional and courteous relationship with customers and co-workers that fosters a positive work environment.

  • Protects and maintains company assets and resources to include inventory accuracy, fixtures and physical store. Maintain the confidentiality and security of sales records and operational reports. Ensures work environment is safe for both customers and associates.
  • Operates the cash register and prepares customer transactions and receipts efficiently. Fully understands register functions, opening and closing procedures and can balance the cash registers at the end of each shift or as scheduled.
  • Ensures accurate account of all cash handling and banking procedures according to rules and policies.
  • Responsible for the supervision of all store employees.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the store.

In addition, the Store Manager must:

  • Have a strong passion for retail, be proactive in problem solving and have the desire and ability to drive sales
  • Demonstrate dynamic interpersonal and public relations skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with retail sales, merchandising programs and procedures with the competitive retail environment.

  • B.S/B.A. degree in a related field

Ventures Crew Leader

The successful candidate must be able to work in partnership with others to lead, support and work in Ventures work crews comprised of our students and members and other people with disabilities employed by Vista. While providing this support, the Ventures Crew Leader must display a strong level of positive, professional and quality support, training and leadership.

Successful candidates must be able to:

  • Teach, evaluate and implement strategies with student/member employees and work cooperatively with customers and vendors.
  • Successfully work in a business service and production-based model.
  • Balance the needs of student/member employees and Ventures Business Services at the same time.
  • Evaluate a given situation and independently develop goals, action steps and ensure implementation of these actions in day to day activities to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of our work crews.   • Be able to determine factors that must be addressed within assigned work crews that will lead to the overall success of the service and implement crew training and accommodations to address those needs.
  • Act as a leader and provide guidance and knowledge to co-workers in all aspects of Ventures Business Services.
  • Have oversight and be responsible for the successful execution and quality control of Ventures Business Services work crews as assigned.
