We offer a community-based training program designed for individuals who would like to succeed in work and independent living, and who are seeking a non-traditional program to address their needs. Student Support Professional

We are currently seeking full and part-time Student Support Professional at our Westbrook Campus for the available shifts: 

Full Time Position 1

Tuesday - Saturday; 2:00 PM-10:00 PM

Total - 40 hours/week

Part Time Position 1

Monday – 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM

Friday – 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Total – 16.5 hours/week

Part Time Position 2

Friday and Saturday; 5:00 PM - 11:00 PM

Total - 10 hours/week

Saturday; 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Sunday; 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

The successful Student Support Professional candidate must be able to work in partnership with others to support, train and assist with all of the daily activities of Vista’s residential campus and students/members while displaying a positive and professional demeanor. The supports include, but are not limited to, transportation, dormitory chores, room organization, meal preparation and students/member social supports.

Candidate must be able to teach, evaluate, problem-solve and implement compensatory strategies. The successful candidate must be able and willing to work with Vista students/members in a variety of settings, including in their homes, on Vista campuses and within the community.

A successful candidate must:

  • Role model good social skills, leadership skills, communication skills, conflict-resolution skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Provide consistent and quality instruction.
  • Maintain clean and orderly residence and Vista vehicles.
  • Provide transportation to students/members in a timely and safe manner.
  • Train and teach students/members a variety of skills according to their individual needs.
  • Work as part of a team with staff, students/members and community members to support good communication and consistent training.
  • Be able to make pertinent decisions and proactively problem-solve issues that may arise.
  • Be flexible and able to respond to the needs of the students/members.
  • Multitask and transition easily from one task to the next.
  • Be willing and able to demonstrate any given support or instruction.
  • Be able to complete all written documentation in a clear, professional and timely manner.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Fill-In Staff

We are currently recruiting for Fill-In positions.

The Fill-In position at Vista is an employee who is not assigned a regular number of hours per week, but works hours needed by Vista as a substitute for a regularly scheduled employee or for additional assignments. Fill-In employees must work a minimum of 20 hours per month to maintain employment with Vista.

Fill-In staff must be flexible to work any assigned site and work within a variety of settings, including within Vista student and members’ homes, on Vista campuses and within the community. Under the direction of a Management Team Member/Supervisor, Fill-In staff provide support and assist in staffing all direct service needs as well as administrative needs. Specific hours vary to accommodate the programmatic and administrative needs within Vista.

Successful Fill-In candidates must have:

  • Knowledge in disability issues.
  • Basic skills in instruction and counseling.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work successfully on both a one-to-one basis and in a group setting with students/members.
  • Strong organizational skills and basic math skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer and other electronic devices as deemed necessary for job function.
  • Ability to evaluate any given situation, develop goals, create specific action steps for goals and monitor student/member progress.
  • An understanding and a commitment to the basic philosophy and mission of Vista Life Innovations and a belief in the potential of its students/members.

Life Skills Instructor

We are currently seeking Full-time and Part-time Life Skills Instructors.

The successful Life Skills Instructor candidates must be able to work in partnership with others to implement systems that support Vista student/member independent living needs. Candidates must be able to teach, evaluate, problem-solve and implement compensatory strategies. Successful candidates must be able and willing to work with students/members in a variety of settings, including within the Vista campus and the community.

The Life Skills Instructor will mainly be working within Vista student/member homes and throughout the shoreline towns in South-Central Connecticut. Life Skills services include household, time, food, medication and money management as well as self-care, community integration, health, safety, and companion services. The Life Skills Instructor must have a general knowledge of how to perform basic life skills-related tasks such as cooking, money management and cleaning.

Successful candidates must:

  • Role model good social skills, leadership skills, communication skills, conflict-resolution skills and problem-solving skills.

Typical Full Time schedules are either Sunday - Thursday or Tuesday - Saturday and shifts are available between the hours of 7 AM - 8 PM.

Program Instructor

The successful candidate for the Program Instructor position in our Discover program must be able to work in partnership with others to implement curriculum-based lessons using a variety of instructional methods, facilitate groups, evaluate and communicate student/member progress in functional skills, and implement systems that support Vista’s student/member independent living needs. The Discover Program Instructor must provide quality training while displaying a positive and professional demeanor.

It is expected that the Discover Program Instructor must be able to:

  • Follow Vista’s mission and demonstrate ethical and professional behavior and sound judgment that supports Vista’s services and programming to Vista students/members.
  • Work with students, members and co-workers, with willingness and flexibility that supports effective team function.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of disability issues and have general knowledge across core curriculum areas: social/cognitive, community and life skills.

In addition, the Discover Program Instructor must:

  • Work within a team setting to foster team communication and creative solutions.
  • Evaluate student/member progress and provide appropriate training interventions.
  • Have and utilize proficient computer skills for facilitating groups and/or individuals.
  • Follow/implement individualized strategies to help the student gain independence in life skills, community integration, and social/cognitive areas.
  • Use identified assistive technology to help students with gaining independence.
  • Be an excellent role model for students so they can learn the necessary social skills in any given environment.
  • Develop a rapport with students so they feel comfortable in their learning environment.
  • Develop relationships with families by attending assigned meetings/events so families report a level of satisfaction with program instruction.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills and strong organization skills.
  • Be flexible and adaptable in terms of scheduling.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Associates Degree in a related field OR a High School Diploma plus 1 year of related experience
  • All positions require a valid driver's license, with an acceptable safe driving record and current auto insurance.

  • May be required to obtain a public service license.

Quality of Life Instructor (Recreation)

We are currently seeking a Recreation Instructor, known at Vista as a Quality of Life Instructor.

The successful Quality of Life Instructor candidate must be able to work in partnership with others to facilitate Recreation services including, but not limited to, recreational activities, physical fitness/sports, meal prep and transportation supports while displaying a positive and professional demeanor.

The successful Quality of Life Instructor candidate must:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in meal preparation skills.
  • Facilitate activities in a group setting.
  • Have good time management skills and the ability to be flexible and organized.
  • Plan and lead recreational group activities and community outings.
  • Develop, plan and lead ongoing and new clubs throughout the year.
  • Plan and lead ongoing sports activities including, but not limited to, basketball, softball, and soccer.
  • Support students/members in accessing the community wellness facilities and assist them in reaching their wellness goals.
  • Plan and cook family-style meals in a group setting while encouraging peer-to-peer socialization.
  • Exhibit creativity in facilitating the engagement of students/members in Quality of Life services.
  • Attend monthly team meetings and proactively communicate the strengths and areas that need improvement.
  • Communicate necessary information to the team of staff for each student/member assigned to their caseload.
  • Use identified assistive technology to help students gain independence.
  • Complete all necessary documentation utilizing the computer and applicable technologies so all systems run smoothly and timely.
  • Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and accurate manner so the student/member’s individual systems are maintained and up-to-date.
  • Be an excellent role model for students/members so they can learn the necessary social skills in any given environment.
  • Develop rapport with students/members so they feel comfortable in their learning environment.

  • Transport students/members in personal vehicle and company vehicle including mini-vans and 15 passenger vans.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and investigative background inquiries.
  • Be able to obtain a Public Service License within 90 days of hire.
