Vista Life Innovations is a nationally recognized, post-secondary program for individuals with autism spectrum disorders and other related disabilities. We offer a community-based training program designed for individuals who would like to succeed in work and independent living, and who are seeking a non-traditional program to address their needs. Vista's philosophy looks at each individual holistically.

Our mission is to provide services and resources to assist individuals with disabilities achieve personal success. We have two main campuses in Madison and Westbrook serving communities along the shoreline in south central Connecticut.

Fill-in Staff

We are currently recruiting for Fill-in positions. The Fill-in position at Vista is an employee who is not assigned a regular number of hours per week, but works hours needed by Vista as a substitute for a regularly scheduled employee or for additional assignments. Fill-in employees must work a minimum of 14 hours per month to maintain employment with Vista.

Fill-in staff must be flexible to work any assigned site and work within a variety of settings, including in clients’ homes, on Vista campuses and within the community. Under the direction of a Management Team Member/Supervisor, fill-in staff provide support and assist in staffing all direct service needs as well as administrative needs. Specific hours vary to accommodate the programmatic and administrative needs within Vista.

Successful Fill-in candidates must have:

  • Knowledge in disability issues.
  • Basic skills instruction and counseling.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work successfully in both a one-to-one basis and group setting with students/members.
  • Strong organizational skills as well as basic math and computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer and other electronic devices as deemed necessary for job function.
  • Ability to evaluate a given situation, develop goals, break down goals into specific action steps and monitor students/members progress.
  • An understanding and a commitment to the basic philosophy and mission of Vista Life Innovations and a belief in the potential of its students/members.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of related experience in human services, or in a related field.
  • Experience with individuals with disabilities required.
In addition, the position requires:
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable safe driving record and current auto insurance.
  • CPR and First Aid or the ability to maintain certifications within 90 days of hire.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and investigative background inquiries.
  • Transporting students and members in both a Vista vehicle and personal vehicle

Job Coach

The successful Job Coach candidate must be able to work in partnership with others to support and teach Vista students/members to work successfully and independently while displaying a positive and professional demeanor.

The Job Coach must have an awareness of disability issues, and a general knowledge of how to perform basic job coaching related tasks including teaching and role modeling the duties of the assigned worksite(s).

He/She must be able to teach evaluate, problem solve and implement compensatory strategies. The successful candidate must be able and willing to work with students and members in a variety of settings within the employment community.

Successful Job Coach candidates must:

  • Successfully work in a variety of employment settings including supportive, group and competitive employment.
  • Balance the needs of students/members, Vista and the employer at the same time.

Life Skills Instructors

We are currently seeking part-time Life Skills Instructors.

The successful Life Skills Instructor candidates must be able to work in partnership with others to implement systems that support Vista’s clients’ independent living needs. He/She must be able to teach evaluate, problem solve and implement compensatory strategies. The successful candidate must be able and willing to work with clients in a variety of settings including within the Vista campus and the community.

The Life Skills Instructor will mainly be working within Vista clients' homes and throughout the shoreline towns in south central Connecticut. Life Skills services include household, time, food, medication and money management as well as self-care, community integration, health, safety, and companion services. The Life Skills Instructor must have a general knowledge of how to perform basic life skills related tasks such as cooking, money management and cleaning.

Successful candidates must:

  • Role model good social skills, leadership skills, communication skills, conflict resolution skills and problem solving skills.
  • Provide consistent and quality instruction.
  • Train and teach clients a variety of skills according to the individual client’s needs.
  • Must be able to make pertinent decisions and proactive problem solve issues that may arise.
  • Must be flexible and able to respond to the needs of the clients.
  • Must be willing and able to demonstrate any given support or instruction.

Quality of Life Instructor

We are currently seeking a Recreation Instructor, known at Vista as a Quality of Life Instructor.

The successful Quality of Life Instructor candidate must be able to work in partnership with others to facilitate Recreation services including but not limited to recreational activities, physical fitness/sports, meal prep, and transportation supports while displaying a positive and professional demeanor.

Successful Quality of Life Instructor candidate must:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in meal preparation skills and the ability to facilitate activities in a group setting
  • Have good time management skills and the ability to be flexible and organized.
  • Plan and lead recreational group activities and community outings.
  • Develop, plan and lead ongoing and new clubs throughout the year.
  • Plan and lead ongoing sports activities including but not limited to basketball, softball, and soccer.
  • Support students/members in accessing the community wellness facilities and assist them in reaching their wellness goals.
  • Plan and cook family-style meals in a group setting while encouraging peer-to-peer socialization.
  • Exhibit creativity in facilitating the engagement of students/members in Quality of Life services.
  • Attend monthly team meetings and proactively communicates the strengths and areas that need improvement.
  • Communicate necessary information to the team of staff for each student/member assigned to their caseload.
  • Use identified assistive technology to assist students with independence.
  • Complete all necessary documentation utilizing the computer and applicable systems so all systems run smoothly and timely.
  • All assigned tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner so the student/member’s individual systems are maintained and timely.
  • Be an excellent role model for students/members so they can learn the necessary social skills in any given environment.
  • Develop rapport with students/members so they feel comfortable and are in their learning environment.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum-High School Diploma, an Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • All positions require a valid driver's license, pre-employment drug screen

Experience:

  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of related experience in human services, recreational activities, or in a related field.

  • Be able to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid within 90 days of hire.
  • Be able to obtain a Public Service License within 90 days of hire.

Ventures Job Coach

We are currently recruiting for a part-time vacancy in our Ventures department. Successful candidates will have experience in:

  • Inventory management
  • Fulfillment-merchandising
  • Cleaning-general office cleaning

We currently have a part-time opening between 20-25 hours/week. Typical schedules are Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:30 am and 2 pm.

The position is based out of Madison; however, local travel is required for sites. All positions require flexibility and the availability to work occasional weekends due to unforeseen circumstances and customer needs.

The successful candidate must be able to work in partnership with others to lead, support and work in Ventures work crews comprised of our students and members and other people with disabilities employed by Vista. While providing this support, the Ventures Job Coach must display a strong level of positive, professional and quality support, training and leadership.

Job Coaches must be able to:

  • Teach, evaluate and implement strategies with student/member employees and work cooperatively with customers and vendors.
  • Successfully work in a business service and production-based model.
  • Balance the needs of student/member employees and Ventures Business Services at the same time.
  • Evaluate a given situation and independently develop goals, action steps and ensure implementation of these actions in day to day activities to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of our work crews.
  • Be able to determine factors that must be addressed within assigned work crews that will lead to the overall success of the service and implement crew training and accommodations to address those needs.
  • Have oversight and be responsible for the successful execution and quality control of Ventures Business Services work crews as assigned.
  • Must be very detailed and able to respond to tight deadline and unexpected situations that may arise with changing timelines
  • The Ventures Job Coach must have an understanding and a commitment to the basic philosophy and mission of Vista Life Innovations and a belief in the potential of its students/members and people with disabilities in general.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma.
  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience in the following: Cleaning, Maintenance, Fulfillment and Merchandising Services.
  • Experience with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
In addition, the successful candidate must:
  • Transport students/members in personal vehicle and company vehicle.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain CPR-First Aid Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Be able to work in various interior and exterior work environments
  • Be able to complete job tasks including lifting up to 25 lbs., sitting, standing and walking for sustained periods of time.
  • Computer skills are needed, willing to train. Experience in Excel a huge plus!

We offer health and dental and benefits for any position at least 30 hours per week, plus paid time off. We offer paid time for all positions 25 hours per week and over.
