Fill-in Staff

We are currently recruiting for Fill-in positions. The Fill-in position at Vista is an employee who is not assigned a regular number of hours per week, but works hours needed by Vista as a substitute for a regularly scheduled employee or for additional assignments. Fill-in employees must work a minimum of 14 hours per month to maintain employment with Vista.

Fill-in staff must be flexible to work any assigned site and work within a variety of settings, including in clients’ homes, on Vista campuses and within the community. Under the direction of a Management Team Member/Supervisor, fill-in staff provide support and assist in staffing all direct service needs as well as administrative needs. Specific hours vary to accommodate the programmatic and administrative needs within Vista.

Successful Fill-in candidates must have:

  • Knowledge in disability issues.
  • Basic skills instruction and counseling.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work successfully in both a one-to-one basis and group setting with students/members.
  • Strong organizational skills as well as basic math and computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer and other electronic devices as deemed necessary for job function.
  • Ability to evaluate a given situation, develop goals, break down goals into specific action steps and monitor students/members progress.
  • An understanding and a commitment to the basic philosophy and mission of Vista Life Innovations and a belief in the potential of its students/members.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of related experience in human services, or in a related field.
  • Experience with individuals with disabilities required.
In addition, the position requires:
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable safe driving record and current auto insurance.
  • CPR and First Aid or the ability to maintain certifications within 90 days of hire.

Life Skill Instructor

We are currently seeking part-time Life Skills Instructors.

The successful Life Skills Instructor candidates must be able to work in partnership with others to implement systems that support Vista’s clients’ independent living needs. He/She must be able to teach evaluate, problem solve and implement compensatory strategies. The successful candidate must be able and willing to work with clients in a variety of settings including within the Vista campus and the community.

The Life Skills Instructor will mainly be working within Vista clients' homes and throughout the shoreline towns in south central Connecticut. Life Skills services include household, time, food, medication and money management as well as self-care, community integration, health, safety, and companion services. The Life Skills Instructor must have a general knowledge of how to perform basic life skills related tasks such as cooking, money management and cleaning.

Successful candidates must:

  • Role model good social skills, leadership skills, communication skills, conflict resolution skills and problem solving skills.
  • Provide consistent and quality instruction.
  • Train and teach clients a variety of skills according to the individual client’s needs.

Manager of Organizational Development

Vista seeks an experienced, professional Manager of Organizational Development with a strong background in donor development, grant writing, events oversight and fundraising. This is a full-time, salaried position.

The ideal candidate is an organized, detail-oriented, creative-thinker, with excellent writing, editing and oral communication skills. The candidate must be able to successful manage multiple ongoing priorities, deadlines, and projects. The Manager of Organizational Development will oversee and lead the fundraising, grant writing, development and events for organizations linked to Vista. The successful candidate must also have proven grant writing experience and demonstrate success with applications of $30,000 or more.

The Manager of Organizational Development must possess and demonstrate excellent communication, public relations and public speaking skills while having the ability to lead others. This position is a member of the organizational management team and may also be in a supervisory role.

The Manager of Organizational Development must have a commitment, vision and understanding of the basic philosophy and mission of the organization.

Manager of Organizational Development Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Director of Organizational Development to create and implement annual and special initiative fundraising campaigns.
  • Leads collaborative grant funding efforts for projects budgeted between $5,000 and $50,000 to achieve annual strategic goals.
  • Implements and executes strategic initiatives for all identified areas of the organization in alignment with Marketing and Development Plans.
  • Implements long term, multi-year objectives related to the strategic plan.
  • Owns the creation of new fundraising initiatives.
  • Leads ongoing development and fundraising activities, monitors and evaluates successful implementation and follow through with systems and operations.
  • Create liaisons with the corporate community and seeks out new sponsors and donations of goods and money to support events and fundraising programs.
  • Sits on and may act as liaison in related Board committees.
  • Oversees planning and implementation of special events and onsite logistics, as identified and assigned, as well as event publicity in all media venues.
  • Raises funds as identified with management goals through participation, sponsorships and other creative methods for all activities as identified.
  • Creates and leads volunteer committees for each event or development program, fostering good relationships and participation by volunteers.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors activities and systems to ensure smooth operation of events and various fundraising programs.
  • Maintains accurate record keeping of event or program expenses and revenues and data related to attendance, demographics and other pertinent information for use in subsequent years and to provide proper reporting to auditors and accounting.
  • Ensures acknowledgment of donor gifts for events and fundraising programs as identified or assigned.
  • Serves as an ambassador for Vista in the community and the wider world, initiating and implementing projects that provide the public with information about Vista’s programs and its students/members.
  • Fosters and maintains good relationships with families, volunteers and community representatives.
  • Work with other development professionals, supervisors and members of the Management Team to ensure that events are well attended and supported by Vista Staff, the Board of Directors and families.
  • Researches new opportunities for events and fundraising programs that may help to raise money and provide greater public relations for the organization.
  • Creates publications that will advertise events or solicit gifts and mail as appropriate. Works with printers and other vendors to ensure that all aspects are operating smoothly.
  • Undertakes special projects and activities as assigned.

Program Counselor

We are currently seeking a full-time Program Counselor with strong case management skills and the proven ability to lead a team on behalf of individual clients in a positive and professional manner. The successful candidate must have knowledge of disabilities issues and sound counseling practices, including family counseling and state and local resources.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing written program plans, goal implementation and creating systems for assigned caseload.
  • Provide individual and family counseling and provide instruction in areas of social skills, cognitive development as well as money, medication and time management strategies.
  • Communicate students/member’s needs, issues and goals to all staff members and other parties involved. Work with students and members in developing natural supports in the community.
  • Maintain all case records as well as all necessary records and documentation.
  • Utilize technology so that effective systems are being utilized that clearly address each student/members goals in all areas of the individualized program plan.

The successful candidate must be extremely organized and able to deal effectively with unforeseen issues as they arise. He/she must be able to proactively problem solve and work collaboratively with co-workers, families students/members and various funding sources in a supportive professional manner. Vista hosts several family events throughout the year, including spring and fall family weekends, and it is expected that all Program Counselors take part in these events as a resource and contact for families and students/members.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree
  • At least 2 years of direct experience working with autism, neurological disabilities or special needs population.
  • Ideal candidate will have excellent written, verbal and organizational skills.
  • Counseling and coordination experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of disability issues and goal development. Must have proficient computer skills and documentation.
  • Must have experience with special needs population and possess strong counseling and service coordination.

Quality of Life Instructor (Recreation)

We are currently seeking a Recreation Instructor, known at Vista as a Quality of Life Instructor.

The successful Quality of Life Instructor candidate must be able to work in partnership with others to facilitate Recreation services including but not limited to recreational activities, physical fitness/sports, meal prep, and transportation supports while displaying a positive and professional demeanor.

Successful Quality of Life Instructor candidate must:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in meal preparation skills and the ability to facilitate activities in a group setting
  • Have good time management skills and the ability to be flexible and organized.
  • Plan and lead recreational group activities and community outings.
  • Develop, plan and lead ongoing and new clubs throughout the year.
  • Plan and lead ongoing sports activities including but not limited to basketball, softball, and soccer.
  • Support students/members in accessing the community wellness facilities and assist them in reaching their wellness goals.
  • Plan and cook family-style meals in a group setting while encouraging peer-to-peer socialization.
  • Exhibit creativity in facilitating the engagement of students/members in Quality of Life services.
  • Attend monthly team meetings and proactively communicates the strengths and areas that need improvement.
  • Communicate necessary information to the team of staff for each student/member assigned to their caseload.
  • Use identified assistive technology to assist students with independence.
  • Complete all necessary documentation utilizing the computer and applicable systems so all systems run smoothly and timely.
  • All assigned tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner so the student/member’s individual systems are maintained and timely.
  • Be an excellent role model for students/members so they can learn the necessary social skills in any given environment.
  • Develop rapport with students/members so they feel comfortable and are in their learning environment.
