If you have recently visited any of the Vista campuses or even just driven by, you might be wondering what those lawn signs are in front of the buildings. The signs are celebrating our 2024 Discover Graduates, Danny and Ruthie! On August 23rd, we will be honoring Danny and Ruthie’s achievement of graduating from the Discover Program and moving out into the community as independent adults. We talked to Will Goble, Director of the Discover Program, about what graduation means at Vista, and how important it is in the journey to independence.

“Every year, we at Vista look forward to celebrating our graduates as they move into their own homes and become members of our Engage program,” Will told us. “Graduation is both a celebration of their achievements alongside their families and supporters, and a chance to come together as a community to welcome them into the next stage of their lives. Our graduates this year, Ruthie and Danny, exemplify the qualities we work together to cultivate in everyone we support: openness, curiosity, collaboration, perseverance, and follow-through. Ruthie is creative, thoughtful, and motivated to take on new experiences and challenges, even when they are uncomfortable. Danny is kind, consistent, with both a clever sense of humor and a strong work ethic. We honor them both and everyone who helped them along the way. We can’t wait to see everyone at The Kate!”

The lawn signs posted at Vista Campuses are just one small way for us to celebrate our graduates. At the Discover Graduation Ceremony, we will come together as a community to celebrate Danny and Ruthie. Here, their Program Counselor will share about their journeys at Vista while giving both Ruthie and Danny an opportunity to speak to their own personal experience of being a student at our Discover Program. It is an amazing event, and we are always blown away by the love and support shown by everyone present.
