Hello WALK for Vista
Hello WALK for Vista
Pia Lauder

At Vista, we are looking forward to several of our "fall favorites," which we will experience in new and creative ways...

Over the next six weeks or so, we will be sharing several of our "revised fall favorites" with you...we hope that the stories we share help to inspire you to be open-minded and flexible in your planning as well...

Each autumn, the Vista community enjoys scenic coastlines and foliage while walking along the Madison shoreline during the WALK for Vista.

While this year's event will occur virtually, our walk participants will show their support by walking from a safe location for them while practicing the now standard measures of mask wearing and social distancing. Many will miss the traditional excitement experienced around our event day where we would gather to socialize, warm-up and stretch, and then walk as a large group from our Madison campus.

Walkers are already making plans and finding new ways to participate. The walk is truly about "friends and family," according to Vista Engage member Andrew and walk captain for the team, Pawz for a Cawz. He reminds us that despite the changes caused by COVID-19, the walk is still meaningful for many longtime supporters like himself, his peers, and his teammates pictured below.

Over the years, WALK for Vista has grown with support from Vista families, community partners, and staff alike working to raise funds annually. Walk participant Phil Hart shares his reason for walking, his son, Andrew..."My son Andrew inspires us all to be the best that we can be. Andrew has fought hard for every step that he takes. He had many obstacles to overcome...for us, "Walking for Vista" with Andrew, our family, and friends allows us to celebrate everything that Andrew has accomplished, and it's also an opportunity to thank Vista!"

This same sense of purpose can be seen with another of our walk teams – the team is made up of many of the members of our Connect Program. Over the past seven months, our Connect Team has also seen some changes in response to COVID...designing and integrating virtual programming into its regimen. However, their walk efforts have not been derailed...Connect members and supporting staff rally together each day in support of this year's virtual WALK for Vista by taking a brisk walk on campus following lunch. Their team motto this year?..."There is plenty of fun to be had when you connect and WALK for Vista"...how perfect!

In addition to team efforts, many individuals are raising awareness and funds each day, like walk participant Elisabeth. This year, she has decided to make an impact through daily walks with her furry friend, Teddy. Elisabeth and Teddy support the event daily, not needing to wait for the actual virtual event day (Sunday, Oct. 25). She has already started her fundraising efforts – and has already begun taking (and sending us) her walk selfies like the one below – Thanks, Elisabeth and Teddy!
