Core Value of Excellence Expressed Through Musical Workshops

Several years ago, Vista created a set of nine Core Values that describe what is important to us as we work to impact the lives of individuals with disabilities and the broader community. For 2022, we have chosen to focus our blog series on these Core Values - telling the story of our students and members and our organization through this important and powerful lens.

November/December Core Value Highlight: EXCELLENCE

Vista is excited to share that we’ve partnered with Musical Masterworks to host a collaborative event centered around the art and power of making music for the Vista community on Saturday, Dec. 17. “We’re ending 2022 on a very exciting note with the launch of our Community Engagement Program,” said Wendy Hayes, Managing Director of Musical Masterworks. “We are delighted to collaborate with Vista to present a series of musical workshops with Decoda, a fabulous ensemble affiliated with Carnegie Hall. Their musicians will present workshops designed to give Vista students and members an opportunity to discover and expand their musical creativity while possibly creating their own masterworks!”

A component of Musical Masterworks’ mission is to bring professional chamber music to the shoreline area while also helping diverse and perhaps musically underserved communities discover music from within and learn how to express it in a meaningful way. This program is funded thanks to a grant from Connecticut Humanities and additional funds from Samuel Freeman Charitable Trust.

“Our musicians from Decoda are looking forward to an afternoon of creative musical work and experimentation with the members of the Vista community,” said Brad Balliett, Decoda co-Artistic Director. "Over the course of two workshops, we will introduce our instruments and collaboratively create some brand-new music to be shared at a small concert at the end of the workshop. We can't wait to meet the members and build on the high level of creativity in the arts that already exists in the community.”

Music is an important component of Vista programming

“Participation in the arts is incredibly rewarding for our members,” enthused Brittany Czajkowski, Quality of Life Manager at Vista, “and we couldn’t be more excited for this upcoming collaboration!”
