Core Value Perseverance Blog: Creations!

Core Value Perseverance Blog: Creations!

Several years ago, Vista created a set of nine Core Values that describe what is important to us as we work to impact the lives of individuals with disabilities and the broader community. For 2022, we have chosen to focus our blog series on these Core Values - telling the story of our students and members and our organization through this important and powerful lens.

October Core Value Highlight: PERSEVERANCE

Perseverance, the Core Value is shown through several avenues here at Vista. As seen in Vista’s social enterprise – Creations, the gift shop that makes a positive impact in the community by spreading awareness about individuals with disabilities. Creations serves as a place for employment, internships, and volunteer opportunities for Vista students and members.

Engage member, Courtney, who has been working at Creations since it first opened, told us that her favorite part of working at the store is "Talking to the customers when they come in."

We also recently had the chance to ask Amanda Creations Sales Associate, what Creations means to her. “Creations means being a part of a community that thrives," she explained.

Creations' Store Manager Lisa Allen and Engage member Connor ring up a purchase, while Engage member Amanda welcomes a customer into the store.

When we asked Connor what his favorite part about working at Creations is, he said, “I really enjoy working with a supportive team of co-workers.” A positive work environment is a vital attribute for developing strong vocational skills.

Recently Sarah Cody, a news reporter from WTNH News Channel 8 stopped by Creations catching the spirit of our Core Value, Perseverance in action. She interviewed the Creations Team about their roles at the store and the positive impact being made on the lives of Vista’s students and members. Creations has certainly earned its name as "The Little Shop with a Big Heart," by offering enriching opportunities for Vista students and members. In addition, this mission-driven store is supported by community members that volunteer their time — if you would like to be a part of the impact Creations is making, please contact us at theteam@creationsmadison.com.

More to come!
