Meet the Class of 2022: Steven Miller

August Core Value Highlight: LEADERSHIP

At Vista, we seek to inspire through leading by example. Graduation exemplifies the Core Value of Leadership by acknowledging and celebrating the independence and success of our students. We are thrilled to introduce six Vista students who have reached a significant milestone this year...Vista's Class of 2022!

We hope you enjoy learning more about these special young men and women!

                      Steven Miller, Class of 2022

We’re pleased to introduce you to our next Vista graduate, Steven Miller. He grew up in South Orange, NJ, and started the Discover Program in 2016. Steven currently lives in Vista’s transition condominiums to prepare for living independently in the greater shoreline community following graduation. Steven recently spoke with us about his Vista journey to graduation.

What are some of the goals you worked towards during your time in the Discover Program?

During my time in the Discover Program, I have achieved many goals that I set for myself. Each goal I have accomplished has given me a newfound sense of independence. By mastering my vocational skills I have been able to maintain a job at Ventures and become a barista at Julie’s Cup of Joe.

What achievements are you the proudest of?

The accomplishment that I am most proud of is moving into transitional housing along the Connecticut Shoreline. This move has given me the space to grow in many ways, which has empowered me to become more self-sufficient in my daily routine.

Can you share an example of a time you feel you displayed Leadership?

Whenever there are new students that enter Vista, I take it upon myself to make them feel comfortable despite the new environment they are adjusting to. I remember one time helping my new roommate learn how to navigate Westbrook Center because it was unfamiliar to him. I can relate to that feeling and it was nice to know that I could help.

What are your hobbies and interests?

The ideal day for me would be listening to some good music, going for a walk outside, and picking up a coffee along the way. Honestly coffee is an essential aspect of any day for me!

What do you think you are best known for?

Most people who know me would describe me as someone who always knows how to make them laugh and for being the best-dressed person at any function.

What’s your favorite color? Favorite food?

Color: blue, red, or green. Food: grilled cheese or coffee.

We hope you enjoyed getting to know Steven. Next week, we’ll introduce you to our final graduate from the Vista Class of 2022!
